Job Scope:As an Associate (Investments & Legal Support) in our 500 Korea team, you will work alongside our 500 Korea team to support 500 Korea’s funds and investments. Reporting to 500 Korea’s Principal, you will work on a variety of legal and regulatory matters, and also interact heavily with founders and co-investors of 500 Korea’s portfolio companies. We work at an incredible pace, so you will need to be a self-starter with strong time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. We are looking for people who apply deep logic to their thinking and are highly organised, who are able to efficiently multitask and see all projects from start to finish in a timely manner.
Main Responsibilities
- Candidates should be comfortable handling diverse legal, operational, and early-stage investment matters, providing essential support to our 500 Korea funds and portfolio companies, including:
- Sourcing and evaluating early-stage startups aligned with the investment thesis.
- Conducting financial analysis, market research, competitive analysis, operational metrics assessments, and drafting investment memos.
- Supporting commercial due diligence, including technology evaluation, reference checks, and comprehensive reporting.
- Reviewing, drafting, and managing investment documentation (contracts, agreements, shareholder consents).
- Ensuring compliance with Korean regulatory filings (via VICS) for fund management and investment activities.
- Coordinating closely with external legal counsels across multiple jurisdictions for efficient transaction management.
- Tracking, managing, and maintaining accurate investment records, cap tables, and deal data.
- Preparing professional reports, investment proposals, and communication tailored for internal and external stakeholders (including LP reporting).
- Proactively supporting portfolio companies post-investment, including fundraising, shareholder voting, operational milestone tracking, and documentation management.
Requirements
- Authorized to work in Korea.
- 2+ years of experience in a domestic or international law firm practising funds and corporate transactions, with experience supporting Korean VC funds and emerging startup companies. Also, open to more experienced candidates who are looking for a more flexible and business-oriented role with significant exposure to venture deals.
- Strong professional proficiency in English and Korean is mandatory.
- Minimum Second Upper Law degree (LLB) or equivalent, from a reputable university.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Hancom HWP.
- Experience with contract management systems or investment operations tools.
- Meticulous and well-organised, has commercial awareness, a sense of ownership, and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to efficiently multitask across multiple deals and workflows and work calmly under tight deadlines and across time zones.
- Excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills.
- Passionate about tech and venture capital.
