Reporting to the Environment Supervisor, the Lead Matte Painter creates photorealistic 2D and 3D matte paintings of subject matter to be used as an element to either embellish or replace live-action footage in feature films.
Key Responsibilities
- Creates photorealistic paintings and elements that match concept and style using 2D and 3D tools and techniques including camera setup, modeling for projection, camera animation, projection setup, image re-projection, and atmospherics/ light passes
- Provides or acquires photographic reference materials
- Combines photographic, paint, and 3d assets to conceptualize, create and design environments using techniques such as camera animation, image projection, layering, and lighting
- Performs tasks related to integrating imagery into shots, preserving a unified sense of lighting, perspective, and color
- Combines painting skills in animation software, with a knowledge of photography, practical and digital modeling, and design, to create 2D and 3D paintings
- Works closely with the Department Supervisor, VFX Supervisors, and CG Supervisors to determine the best methods to complete work in a timely manner and ensures that plates meet planned concept design requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a DMP artist for live-action (realistic) feature films required
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Maya, and Nuke required
- Knowledge of other tools such as Mari, Max, Houdini, Forest Pack, Speed Tree, Terragen, Clarisse, and Substance (a plus)
- Experience and/or working knowledge of modeling, texturing, composting (preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of DMP techniques and/or technical experience in photography/lighting with an emphasis on color and composition; traditional art background a plus
- The ideal candidate must be able to multitask, be self-motivated, proactive, and manage all aspects on an environment and sequence level
- Responsive to guidance and review notes from creative and technical leadership – able to apply feedback to achieve the required look
- Team player and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting/ problem-solving skills

- 사진 참고 자료를 제공하거나 수집합니다.
- 사진, 페인팅, 3D 에셋을 결합하여 카메라 애니메이션, 이미지 프로젝션, 레이어링, 라이팅 등의 기법을 활용해 환경을 구상, 제작, 디자인합니다.
- 이미지의 샷 통합 및 조명, 원근, 색상의 일관성 유지를 위한 작업을 수행합니다.
- 애니메이션 소프트웨어에서의 페인팅 기술과 사진, 실사 및 디지털 모델링, 디자인에 대한 지식을 결합하여 2D 및 3D 페인팅을 제작합니다.
- 부서 슈퍼바이저, VFX 슈퍼바이저, CG 슈퍼바이저와 긴밀히 협력하여, 작업을 기한 내에 최적의 방법으로 완수할 수 있도록 하고, 플레이트가 계획된 콘셉트 디자인 요구 사항을 충족하는지 확인합니다.
자격요건
- 실사(리얼리스틱) 장편 영화에서 DMP 아티스트로서 최소 5년 이상의 경력(필수)
- Photoshop, Maya, Nuke에 대한 전문적인 지식(필수)
- Mari, Max, Houdini, Forest Pack, Speed Tree, Terragen, Clarisse, Substance 등 기타 툴에 대한 지식(우대)
- 모델링, 텍스처링, 합성 경험 및/또는 실무 지식(우대)
- DMP 기법에 대한 고급 지식 및/또는 사진/라이팅 분야에서 색상과 구도를 중점으로 한 기술적 경험; 순수미술 배경 우대
- 환경 및 시퀀스 단위의 모든 측면을 관리할 수 있는 멀티태스킹 능력, 자기주도적이고 적극적인 태도 필수
- 크리에이티브 및 기술 리더십의 가이드와 리뷰 피드백에 신속히 대응하며, 요구되는 룩을 달성하기 위해 피드백을 적용할 수 있는 능력
- 팀 플레이어이며, 최소한의 감독하에 독립적으로 일할 수 있는 능력
- 강한 문제 해결 및 트러블슈팅 능력
