Department purpose and structure
The Seoul Office is primarily a Banking and Project Finance practice led by 1 local partner and consists of a diverse group of associates (mixture of UK and Australian law qualified) working as part of a regional team across APAC, including the team in Japan, China and Australia. The main products the team handles are projects, general banking, ship finance, leveraged finance and structured finance. We are currently looking for a Paralegal to support the office as a whole.
We advise the most sophisticated sponsors, project and construction companies, debt providers and governments across a wide array of sectors, including LNG, power generation (thermal, nuclear and renewable) and transmission, social infrastructure, transport, telecommunications, waste & water, mining and natural resources.
We provide our clients with a totally integrated service on all aspects of projects work in both the primary and secondary markets, marshalling A&O Shearman’s specialist skills in relation to, among other things, project development, deal-structuring, bankability, equity strategy, debt financing and refinancing (including bank, capital markets, ECA and multilateral), hedging, project contracts, construction and regulatory compliance.

Key relationships
- Lawyers on client related matters;
- Know-How and Training Manager on know-how, training and library related matters;
- Office Manager on office admin related matters; and
- Business Development (BD) Manager on marketing/BD related matters.
Role and responsibilities
- Drafting first drafts of simple financing documents or condition precedent documents based on standard form precedents
- Proof-reading and indexing documents
- Drafting correspondence
- Preparing bibles
- Distribution of original documents and agreements
- Researching and obtaining documentation
- Conducting marketing research
- Updating libraries and assisting with filing of loose leaf collections
- Liaising with the IT Manager in dealing with any IT related issues
- Binding and photocopying and materials as required
- Assisting on setting up data rooms and managing them thereafter
- Ad hoc translations from Korean to English and vice versa of various documents, including client emails and documents, pitch documents, and research material
- Updating marketing related trackers, including referrals lists, Request for Proposal (RfP) list and client tracker list
- Drafting/proof-reading pitch proposal documents
- Preparing meeting schedules for lawyers from our global network visiting Korean clients
- Qualified lawyer (and/or) law school graduate (non law graduates may also be considered on an exceptional basis)
- Organised and methodical approach to work

- The office is currently recruiting for a short-term Legal Assistant with excellent research, writing, communication and organisational skills. A hard-working team player with a flexible, willing "can do" attitude. Ideally this role would be part of a legal career plan and would help prepare the candidate for their career and next steps within the legal industry. A 6-month fixed term contract will be initially offered.
